My niece is in the hospital with mastoiditis, a complication of untreated otitis media. I had no idea that parents who smoke are putting their children at risk of having ear infections (otitis media), even if they don’t smoke with their kids around:
Statistically, parental smoking is the single biggest preventable cause of ear infections. “But I don’t smoke around him!” Doesn’t matter, the correlation is 30% more infections whether you smoke in the house or at work - the smoke on your clothes is enough.
I suppose if the smoke on your clothes is enough the smoke in your carpet, drapes couch and bedsheets is more than enough. Seems like the best advice is for parents not to smoke and not to go places where people smoke either. Seems like the best advice for governments is to protect children by not allowing smoking to take place in any place that might be visited by a child.

She recovered quickly
Thankfully, Mia recovered quickly and with no long term complications.

This is one more reason for
This is one more reason for quiting smoking. I am a smoker and I want to quit but I don't feel like I can handle this by myself. I do need help because I want to quit for good. I am thinking about drug rehab for that. The reason I want to quit? I want to have healthy kids, and I took this decision long before reading this article.
healthy happy lives
A lot of good can come from us being aware of the little things that can cause such an effect. We all know that second hand smoke can be such a big deal but who would have ever guessed that my children were ever in jeopardy of having health problems even though I don't smoke around them. I am now seriously considering finding alternatives to helping me quit.
