That really is brutally cruel… I mean, it’s one thing to KILL an animal to eat it (i.e. causes it as little ‘suffer’ as possible) but allowing it to flinch around in an arena after death?! SERIOUSLY?! Does that make us look like the most ‘advanced’ species on the planet?
But on a side note - cruelty to animals like this is NOT an ‘excuse’ to go Veggie… or at least not imho. There are perfectly ‘legitimate’ ways of killing animals to survive. I mean at the end of the day, not matter how emotionally evolved we are, we are still biological animals?! We don’t accuse leopards of being emotionally stunted when they hunt other animals. The different is that leopards tend not to torture their prey - they simply kill to eat. ‘GoVeg.com’ appear to be (imho) using animal torture as a political marketing tool which, I think, is inappropriate. I have no problem with people choosing to go veggie - it’s a lifestyle thing and their choice, just like its my choice to enjoy a sirloin steak. I DO have a problem with people using animal cruelty as a tool to promote their way of life. Thats simply using one wrong to promote another persons “right”. Very bad…

if you buy that sirloin steak, do you know how it was killed? If “yes”, and you are at peace with that knowledge (ie., it was raised on an “organic” farm that respects animal rights), then there is one less argument against eating meat. There are many other argumentsagainst eating meat which people might consider, too. The implicit involvement in the animal torture industry is just the icing on the cake, and the one that most people relate to the most strongly.

This is from Postville, Iowa. It is a Kosher slaughterhouse for the Hasidic Jews who moved there in 1987. Just Google for Postville or read the Wikipedia entry to find out more about the cultural problems there.
Whether you are a vegetarian or not (I’ve been both), representing the above video as standard practice for processing beef is dishonest.
Every bite sanctions this.

But you're involved...

Agree that this video isn't the whole picture
Knowing that it happens is important, though, else one isn’t inclined to search for alternatives such as the ones you cited.
