Where I worked, they ended as Storchenfutter. I think this "show" is a little dramatic. Normally people were not very shocked when they saw me with a bucket full of dead chicks in the field, feeding storks.
I think eating an egg is pretty much the same, isn't it?

I see dead chicks in cages at the Kölner Zoo as well. They said that they end up in dog or cat food as well, which is probably where the majority go, as there aren't that many zoos in all.
You're right when you say that people who eat meat should be prepared to do the killing necessary to procure the meat. (The linked article is describing grilling in Burkina where instead of bringing sausage, potato salad and beer to the grill party, you bring a goat, salt and oil, and stuff to build the grill. The point is you slaughter your own goat to grill it.)
For years I ate meat and justified it with the thought that I would be ready to slaughter a farm animal and prepare its meat for my meal. I then realized that this is a fantasy. I have no control over the meat industry as it really is, and if I could witness the real conditions under which the animals were raised and killed, I would not approve.
Then there is the cost to the environment of meat... which I can't avoid. So I stopped eating it.
But I eat eggs. And this video is part of what gets my eggs on the table. So I should know what those eggs cost.
