Drupal 6 has been released - go blog about it!

Drupal 6 has been released and this is cause for much rejoicing. It is the Drupal version that we will live and work with for the coming year and beyond, and more effort than ever has been put into making D6 a dynamite release.

Now that it D6 is out, it is up to us, the "Drupal Community" to spread the word. We will only continue to thrive if we are successful in bringing new talent to the project, and remain an attractive option for businesses looking to launch a website. Your role in this effort is to write about the new Drupal on your own websites, blogs, news groups and email lists.

When you write about Drupal, take the time to provide some information for people who might not have all of the background and context that is needed to understand its significance. Try to answer these questions:

- What is Drupal?
- Who should be using Drupal?
- What can I do with Drupal?
- What is better about Drupal 6?
- Where do I get more information?

When you are finished writing about Drupal, take the time to post your work to social networking sites like Digg and Reddit to help drive new traffic to your article. Greg Knaddison has a set of steps for creating a Digg bookmarklet to embed in your post. Here is the code that you can use to help promote the post on Drupal.org:

<script>
digg_url = 'http://digg.com/software/Drupal_6_0_has_been_RELEASED_download_now';
</script>
<script src="http://digg.com/api/diggthis.js">

If you want it to float to the left like in this post, use this:

<div style="float: left; margin-right: 1.5em;">
  <script type="text/javascript">
    digg_url = 'http://digg.com/software/Drupal_6_0_has_been_RELEASED_download_now';
  </script>
  <script src="http://digg.com/tools/diggthis.js" type="text/javascript">
</div>

Oh I did ...

Drupal 6.0 is a beast

I am gonna start writing about Drupal on my new website and my experience with it ( which has been orgasmic and intense at times), Oh I am cracking on D6 after my beer and yeh lots to write and learn, fun ride. I hope I will contribute in 6 or 7 myself ..

Thanks

Great Day!

Congratulations, Rob, to you and the many, many others on this fine work, now available to the world! Way cool!

Another question...

How long will 6 be supported?
For someone who may just be developing a custom solution based on 5.x why would he pick to develop for 6 instead?

Drupal 6 will be supported until Drupal 8 is released

Likewise, Drupal 5 will be supported until Drupal 7 is released. If you have invested serious effort into a site for D5, stick with it. Most likely the modules you depend on for D6 aren’t available or well tested yet. New projects can start on D6 now, especially if they are willing to work with module developers to help port the important modules.
